Key Concepts

Before you build a mesh with the RMC it helps to understand the handful of data structures everything else is built on. They are small, composable, and reused everywhere — once you know them, the rest of the API reads naturally.

Start with how a mesh is represented, then work down through the data types you use to assemble one.

How meshes are structured in the RMC — from the parts of a vertex, to the indices that turn them into triangles, to the poly groups that batch them. Mesh structure

Streams are the core data type of the RMC. Each holds one part of the mesh data — positions, tangents, colors, indices, and so on. Learn more about streams

Stream builders give you type-safe, array-like access to a single stream, including strided access to one channel of a multi-channel stream. Learn more about stream builders

Stream linkages tie multiple streams together so that size-changing operations on one keep the others in sync — useful for the position/tangents/texcoords/color streams of a mesh. Learn more about stream linkages

Stream sets are the container for working with multiple streams at once. This is the most common way to pass mesh data around. Learn more about stream sets

TRealtimeMeshBuilderLocal is a helper template for building the most common mesh layout in an efficient, easy-to-use way. Learn more about the local mesh builder
